what is the difference between tactics and strategy?
tactics are the result of strategy.....the bettr ur strategy the bettr ur tactics!!!!!!
Tactics are specific variations, strategy is the principles which define the position.
An example of tactics is if you say "I play Rook to this square check, he has two possibilities, the first leads to checkmate when I play my queen over there, and so he must choose the second, which leads to me winning a piece after I play my rook takes his bishop"
An example of strategy is if you say "My opponent's pawn on d5 is isolated. I know that isolated pawns can be weak or strong. I also know that I should control the square in front of the pawn (d4 in this case) to make the pawn weak. So, what pieces of mine can potentially control this. Well, there's my knight already on f3, but my bishop on c1 could potentially guard d4. I think I like the plan of pawn to b3 followed by bishop to b2, to weaken my opponent's pawn.
OK - but that's just the first part - now you have to ask yourself, if I play b3 what is my opponent likely to do? (Maybe he can play Qf6 and win your rook on b1 or something).
