Tactics for Drinking Chess

    St Patty's is only a few hours away(...in case you didn't hear, the pope got a memo from jesus and moved it to Sat the 15th).  And as such, the annual tradition amoung my friends is drinking chess in a dimly lit room.

    rules generally follow as:  pawns are shots of beer, rooks are straight whiskey, normally bushmills, bishops are also whiskey, normally jameson's (high and lowlands) king and queen are normally something with whiskey and baley's or something and kahlua.

     you drink what you kill...and loser clears the board.

    presents interesting strategic elements in daring your oponent to take your more intoxicating peices... especially after one or two rounds of play.

    any thoughts?

    Maybe fun for some, but not a state of mind that I enjoy.  If some poeple at my college knew about those tactics, chess might be more popular there.  The tournaments would run every weekend.

    Two pawn gambit should get you off to a flyer;

    1 e4 c5 2 d4 cxd4 3 c3 dxc3 4 Bc4

    Played this once in a rapid play event against 2100 opponent and won!

    you want a gambit that leads to sharp play =D, play muzios!

    a bishop sac very early on =0.  1 shot of hard liquor is so much better!

    remember 3 shots of beer are better then one of hard liquor!

    Muzio's is characterized by the knight sacrifice, not the bishop, though the bishop usually gets tossed as well.

    Sounds good! I will be too busy giving my liver a workout to be even thinking about chess. Wish you all a good day for St.Paddys day.

    Sounds like fun.  I would like to make an observation, unless the size of your shots are different all of those alcohols are roughly the same in alcohol percentage.  Taking a players more valuable piece will not get you intoxicated any faster, of course you could play blitz, to get blitzed :)
