I hated tactics trainer at first.  I couldn't understand certain solutions, or why some problems stopped where they did, and the whole program seemed opaque and vaguely authoritarian.

The real reason I didn't like it was that it gave me such a crappy rating.  Snif snif.  Yes, even now, my rating is around 1100, while my online chess rating is in the 1800s.  But I learned to embrace the low rating, and now tactics trainer is one of my favorite things to do on this site.  I like being a gold member, because the daily 25 is the perfect quantity if you want to improve but also have a life.  Doing more than 25 a day is probably not that effective anyway.

Im still debating what to do as far as upgrading my account. IM just on the FreeBee one. But I could use something to start teaching me. And As you can see by my online rating here I have NOOOOO Problem with a low rating haha. Honestly ratings don't concern me in the least. I just like to play and would like to get better so I can win some. I have only one win so far on this site and the player had to make a few mistakes for me to get it :P

once you learn to totally ignore the rating thingy on tactics trainer, it's good.  I enjoy it very much.

I've put something like 14.5 hours on it in the last few weeks.

I wish the rating system didn't use time as a factor, though.  I have to force myself sometimes to wait until I find the move, instead of guessing at the best one I see first.  I have to remind myself that the rating is incidental to the activity.

I would rather have a tactics trainer where there was a fixed time limit, or with a fixed time limit for the first move and bonus time for multi-move problems.
