I'm new to this site, can we start a team game? say 12/24 hours per move

 Team Matches - between Groups - are subject to much the same contraints as all other turn-based (i.e Correspondence Chess style) games on this site. The maximum time between moves is allocated in days not hours. The available options are: 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 or 14 days.

I do believe we have 2 days also now

 So we do! - but only on individual games - not on Team Matches.

well 24 hours is one day, but under play, vote chess, some are 5 mins, 30 mins per move, i've just found we have one game in progress, near the end, who can start another? so we can get through the opening whilst the other game is finishing

No mistake on your part. I expected the controls the individual games and Team Matches to be the same - which they are not. Presumably the 2-day option will be applied to Team Matches at some point in the future - for consistency.
