Thanks for the reminder, how about tag-team coach wrestling?  Instead of throwing in the towel they could throw in the chess pieces, I would pay to see that.

And I would happily go see also : )

Looks like you already threw in your shirt.

The best things in life are free. I get tons of free stuff over the internet.programs ,trainers tactics, videos, books free places to play .

There is no point to pay for stuff that You can get for free, and better if you cant affort the price, like me. i will pay same day a personal trainner for live sessions

    1. Too many cheaters in live, which kinda leads to point number two ---> 2. Hardly any real titled players playing chess. I mean IMs and GMs. 3. Cheaters clogging up the best rating lists and tactics trainer lists. 4. Stupid "fair play policy". 5. Too many cheaters in online chess, i'm not here to play centaur correspondence. And yes, I am aware the staff have some sort of statistician checker. But he is incompetent in dealing with smarter cheaters. 6. Site design is awful, bring back the old design, its simpler, and you don't have to click buttons to find information that was previously on display. 7. Cheaters are not shamed anymore, just account closed. So we don't know if people are banned or they just closed their own accounts.

Nice site, but could be so much better!

I think that usually refers to stuff like sunshine and fresh mountain air, not online perks. Smile

    Chess should be free.

The thing is chess is so simple (in terms of software) and has such a small footprint (in terms of bandwidth, memory needed)... its very easy to solve this problem over the internet for free... there is no need for a massive centralised server. A laptop running in some basement which establishes a connection between 2 peoples computers could handle huge loads of players. It doesnt do anything except connect the 2 players computers, and then its job is done.  Then the software on the 2 peoples computers would take over. If it werent for chess.com's of the world being free, there would be others like FICS etc setting up free ones all over the place. Just like open source software, computers internet and software is that rare unique field where you can get things for free because of good natured people doing things for the love of the thing itself, and not money. You write the code once but it can be used infinitely, with no more work needed.

This is not actually the case. First of all, it is not very easy to connect two people directly using a server-- the internet is not built that way (and by the way the internet is built, I mean to refer to TCP/IP).

Not to mention the fact that if some website allowed my system to implement rules of chess (or would somehow rely on the data I sent), hacking it would be a piece of cake.

8$ a month for the Diamond membership is nothing.  It takes more than 8$ in gas to drive into town and back.  My friends pay more than 8$ for a drink at a bar.  I too get loads of good info and stuff for free online, but free videos by masters, the chess mentor, unlimited tactics training, and plenty of other things are provided by this site, and the MOST premium membership is 8$ a month.  I am a cheapskate, and so tight when it comes to money, but c'mon, these guys provide a nice site with tons of stuff for chicken feed.  Toss them a little money to keep their servers up and running.  I have not regretted it once.

And of course $8 is also less than a dime bag...right? Smile

Buddy you have no idea what youre talking about...
Its very easy to setup connections .. have you heard of .. say... torrents?? which is a much more complicated setup.

For the chess server.. The server would give host 1 the host 2's machines IP/port which would be listening and then host1 connects host 2. It couldnt be simpler. Ive got a double degree in Comp Sci, and have been working in this field for 12 years... please dont comment if you have no idea what you are talking about.

To hack the software, first of all you'd have to be a coder, second people would block you and stop playing with you. This would be a tiny problem, easily solved with a few mechinisms (like email registration)

The fact that your not paying me 500$k a year to play chess devalues me.
