I have just purchased a copy of The American Chess Player's Hand Book published by the John C. Winston Co. Philadelphia copyright 1928. There is no listed author. My question is does anyone out there know who the author was? Any information would be greatly apprieciated.

Really. I don't think so he died in 1874 and would not have known the games of Lasker, Pillsbury or Capablanca there are games of these players in the book.

Staunton wrote The Chess Player's Handbook, not the American Chess Player's Hand Book.

I just found a reference that it is based on Staunton's handbook and the 1934 ed. listed author's as Howard Staunton and modern authorities. Who were the modern authorities?
