Developing your pieces is the first golden rule in chess, and while in some games it's not that important, in others it is vital because it gives one side a huge advantage over the other. Take a look at this:

A great example of what not to do in the opening. Of course, this example is very basic, but in my next post I will tell you about another very important golden rule: controlling the centre.

Remember to develop your pieces, and only move each piece once! Don't get your queen out early, and if you do, move it back before it's too late!

I'm really getting sick of everybody on this site bagging on the Scandinavian since it brings the Queen out early. The mistake isn't Qxd5, rather Qg5.

Black has nice play if the correct lines are played. Qg5 is rubbish. I like the lines in which Black castles queenside and gets nice rook play down the d-file.

I have played some excellent chess with my queen out early. Rules are made to be broken.

usually after e4 d5 exd5 Qxd5 Nc3 the most common moves are Qa5, Qd8, or even Qd6.

Um...White won, so I guess it is just a patzer opening for Black.

That is 100% correct, however, the board position after 3. Nc3 is terrible for black simply because he has to move his queen again. But, if you play that opening and you win games using that opening, good on you, because you are a pawn up early. For me, board position is priceless in the opening.
