I never really took the computer seriously until today.  I was just playing it on easy (had to start somewhere) and had mate in two when I misplaced a piece by accident.  I theoretically won by advancing a bishop to f6, to which the computer responded with gxf6, leaving his king open.  Does the computer chose moves based on point value?  Or is it just oblivious to king safety???  Didn't help that I had exchanged various pieces and effectively seperated the two halfs of the board with triple-stacked pawns on the e file.

The computer looks a certain number of moves deep. On EASY it only looks 1-2 moves deep :)

Hah, I've gotten to pawn/one piece end games which I'm not good at and lose on medium.  Chessmaster 10th edition has really helped my play...so I'm sure I'll be taking on hard soon :)

Ah, so the skill level is determined based upon how far into the future the computer can see!  Thanks for the information, I didn't know that!
