Just curious, who out there has the most active games going.  I've seen one person with over 1200 and another with over 3000???!!!  So who has the most and why do you play so many at one time?

I have a lot of free time on my hands, and I spend most of it playing chess... It's difficult for me to play more than ten or twelve games at a time and maintain any level of quality to my playing.

3000+ games?  Wow.  Why would anyone engage in so many games at once?

I've accepted her open seeks a couple times.  After waiting days for her to move, I aborted the games, wondering why someone would invite people to play and then not ever move.  Now I know why...

As much as  you dont like that, there is time limit for moves, so if you accepted game with 3 days/move, then be prepared to w8 for 3 days for you opponent to make his/her move. Aborting your games becouse of that is not nice.

I never said I didn't like it, I just wondered why.  I accept time controls for what they are, but I'm not waiting days for someone to make an opening move when the've just issued a challenge.  There are too many other people willing to play.

How, exactly, was I not being nice?  I doubt that with over 3500 games and counting that she even noticed, and I was within the rules of chess.com by pressing the abort tab provided to me by chess.com.  Etiquette is a two way street...

But everything is by rules, no etiquette here. And if you do not have problem with time control and you accept it like they are, why then you abort before your opp move? What is the difference between w8ing for first move 3 days and 25th move 3 days? You can always see who you are playing with, how much games they have, what is their avg time/move etc. And why would YOU care about one game when you can play as many as you want? It's not that you are playing vs. her in some tournament so she would not stoping you finishing it and going to next round, or joining new tournament.

This is a common complaint. "My opponent only moves in the agreed upon time limit."

If you make you own open seek you can filter out the less active players with the Advanced Options.

You pointed out that it wasn't nice to abort a game for that reason.  But issuing open challenges when you already have more games in progress than you can possibly keep up with isn't exactly considerate, is it?  I mean, what's the point?  I do think there is a difference between waiting 3 days for the first move and 3 days for the 25th move.  It's like saying hello, or greeting your opponent.  Although not required by the rules, it's still a nice thing to do.  Why continually create open seeks when you're not even ready to play?

It takes a little while to learn how to use the filters, and to absorb all the information that pops up when you click on someone's profile or view game.  I've learned how to utilize this site a lot more effectively since I first joined.  Knowing what I do now, I would have never accepted her seeks to begin with, but I don't think that I was being unkind by aborting the games. I was being completely reasonable...

I agree with both sides of this argument.I reserve the right to move seconds b4 control and abort games. Chess.com is a beautiful place.

3000 games?? If that person made it a point to never eat and sleep and work AND devoted 100% of their time to Chess.com and do nothing but play Online Chess 24/7 AAAND made it a point to take no more than 60 seconds/move, then he or she would complete 1 round of moves approximately every 2 days!

More realistically, you'd just start a game with him or her and wait 2 weeks till he or she eventually times out =/

First of all, I take way less than a minute per move in 99% of moves.

And no, she actually doesn't time out, or at least not as often as you imply.

And how do you know if she was able to keep up? You did not w8 for her first move.

I find it difficult to play multiple games at once and feel like I'm playing my best at the same time.

I like to vary my openings for both White and Black almost every game, and a lot of the times I have to replay the last 5 moves just to figure out what opening or opening variation led me to the current position.

I guess it's not a big deal when I'm playing people who are not yet as good as me, but when I play people with similar or higher ratings, it becomes really tough. I would rarely spend more than 5 minutes max at a tournament OTB game, so to do so on every other correspondence game is tough for me.

Strep, are ya her biggest fan, or what? I mean, do the math...  and tell me honestly what you think is reasonable.

I didn't care if she could keep up.  That's why I aborted the games.  You can wait for her to your heart's content, and I'll continue to be "not nice".

This doesn't seem likely. Is there a way to know what the average number of games going at a time is at the moment?
