I thought Bent Larsen's first name was a typo the first time I saw it. Same for Paul Morphy's last name
And how about Pal Benko?
funny though... pal ;)

One that I don't see misspelled, but rather, mis-pronounced is:
Alekhine
I've heard: Alakeen, Alakine, Alkaline (yes, I've heard people call him what they call the battery), Aliakin (or Ali Achin'), etc.
It's about as bad as the Cuban Singer. Gloria what?
Es' te fonEs' te finE stef' onE stef' in
Note the accent on the first syllable in the first 2, second syllable in the latter 2.

@ NM ozzie_c_cobblepot, post nr 63, have a look (again) at the forum " How do you pronounce Alekhine " by Casual_Joe, some months ago, in which you already wrote about the pronunciation of Euwe's name. This is the nice part of studying languages, pronunciations of the same word are so different in various countries. Being Dutch, as Euwe, I never heard a foreigner pronounce it as we do in Holland, ( like the town Scheveningen... Try it ! )
Good times.

Let's not also get started on mispronounced names OK?

I could imagine a lot would write GM Roman Dzindzichashvili wrong.
Psalm25
But no one other than Roman would probably notice
qazx
In reverse order, Miss World style:
5. Fischer, known to many as Fisher
4. Schlechter, a.k.a. Schlecter, Schleckter
3. Alekhine, affectionately known as Alkin
2. Rubinstein, who prompted the thread in fact. Rubenstein appears the most common version.
.... and now ... for the winner...
1. Nimzowitsch, actually had to look the spelling up.
[Edit: least misspelled - Tal]
cool thing

@qazx and crazychessplaya : see post nr 57 on Nimzowitsch !
