I, for one, think it would be intriguing to include on this site options allowing the manual reconfiguration of starting positions in chess games, thus allowing games such as Horde chess and many other variants to played.

It would be interesting, but I do not know if taking the time to implement it would be justified by the small minority that would use it.

As far as I know, some of the same type of operations are already in use in applications such as the analysis board or puzzle making boards. It would be predominantly user controlled, as all the staff would have to do is implement it.

it would appear you can now play fischerandom which is similar
