In a free world, I will never understand why Black plays the Sicilian! If they have a gun... ok, play it , otherwise...

Supposedly the Sicilian Negates or Equalizes Whites first move advantage by changing into an unbalanced game. That is True! However, White gains a Space and Development edge! That is all they were trying to gain with the first move in the first place!!

Ugh... ive told u a billion times!

instead of meeting white with e5, he stakes out his own territory, and attacks d4. Also, in the main lines he gets an extra center pawn.

And white doesn't get a space and development edge with other responses? White can always use he's extra tempo to force black out of the centre, so the siclian makes sure black gets a lot in return.

And this is why the sicilian is the worst scoring of all blacks possible responses to 1.e4.

Oh wait.

-- 1.e4?  Is there a worse first move? The pawn was defended back on e2, why move it? e4 is a self-inflicted weakness waiting to be exploited! So, 1...c5 might not be the best answer, but after a blunder like 1.e4 Black has equalized and he can play anything he likes.

Statistics don't tell the whole story. According to statistics, the reply a6 has a higher win rate for black than the Sicilian.

A likely reason why the Sicilian has such a high win rate for black is because it's been so thoroughly analysed. The black player chooses the Sicilian because he//she knows it well, and so the percentage of black player to white players who are fluent in the Sicilian will be significantly in black's favour.

There is nothing to suggest that the Sicilian is inherently strong, anymore than most other defences.

If you wish to discredit one of the most solid openings, you better come up with more depth in your post than the rather silly and untrue claim of "White gains a Space and Development edge"

Or was the whole thread an attempt of a humor?

of course! any good player knows that you only play the sicilian to trick your opponent into thinking it is a good opening so that they may play it next time. Thats why i've been playing it exclusively Cool

Well, it's not simply a joke ... there is truth to what you say. The e-pawn needs protection. The d-pawn has it.Smile
