ok, so there was"dodgeball" about dodgeball,  "blades of glory" about figure skating, "beerfest" about beer games, there will be "balls of fury" about ping pong, and an assload of baseball and football movies.

 

there needs to be a new chess movie.  a story about a guy who is this awesome chess player but listens to punk rock, is tattooed, drives a motorcycle, and party's like a rock star.  of course there will be his nemesis who is a more straight laced player, and a big showdown.  kinda like a happy gilmore sort of movie, mixed with maybe ferris buellers day off and fightclub.  

i have about 3 different story lines for a chess movie, i could make 3 chess movies, i wish i could figure out how to make them.... 

Sounds like me 10 years ago, only minus the tattoo's and motorbike. 40 next year though and getting too old for that. Don't even play football anymore ( soccer to you yanks ). Just like to sit down on my fat arse and play chess!

Chessloser I think you're on to something good.  And if it's a good flick more folks might get into the game.

Hey man! I play in a punk rock band, party like a rock star and I play chess. Wait a minute, I'm out of the story line, since I can't play chess well enough to make the movie exciting. Darn, I thought I just found the perfect career move.

I agree.  A very good chess movie is necessary.  Something like Pi, but about chess.  Has anyone ever seen the movie Pi?

What sort of a movie are we talking about? If you're thinking a low-budget indie flick then let's get the money together! I know a couple good screenwriters we could talk to...

hmm...  I wonder who would be the best actor for it?

Your idea is good, but further I would like to add that he shouldn't be a natural talent.  He(or she! we need more female chess players!) should lose to a LOT, but still retain his(her) passion for the game.

First step (I suppose) would be the screenplay.  You may not be able to "make them," but I bet you could write a screenplay, or collaborate with someone.  Go for it!  I know you already have 3 story lines, but here's another one: Conan the Barbarian meets up with Rambo (or some such characters) and after a bit of saber rattling, name-calling, huffing and puffing, they decide to settle their differences by going at it over a game of chess.  Is that brilliant, or what?! 

Yeah, the movie PI was CRAZY!!!  But for sure there should be a cool chess movie/comedy and there should be a hot woman in it so everyone will want to play chess!!  :)

there are an spanish novel called ¨La Tabla de Flandes¨, I don´t know if it was traslated in to english (find out in the net), any way there you have an argument ready for a chess movie, and a good chess - thriller one.

I seen a chess move on the A&E channel about these young students in school who play chess but it wasn't very good. But, yeah there defiantly needs to be a cool movie about chess although it would be harder to make one about chess than it would be about something like dodge-ball or figure-skating.

i think a chess movie would be really good idea however why does there always have to be a "hot" woman player i mean is that all you guys think about it. would you rather have a really good actor or a "hot" girl? apart from that really good idea. there should be a cool chess movie but you don't want people to think that your trying to make chess look cool.

That kind of formula movie has been done sooooooooo many times before.  What does it even matter if he plays chess?  He is whatever kind of slacker-virtuoso you like.  Howabout a semi-biographical story about a chess player whoooooo... maneuvers his way out of the soviet union?  Lots of political intrigue, totalitarianism mixed with the state's desire to show off it's best, and a sexy double-agent who might betray the hero.  There, that's a chess movie!

I'd love to see a movie version of Chess - The Musical.
