 This is where you lost me. Tattoos, donorcycles and whatever passes for punk rock these days are not my cuppa. I prefer my chess movie protagonists to be quirky introverted nebbishes who habitually wear scarves and inexplicably listen to the likes of Cole Porter and Louis Armstrong... and ride the subway.

Okay right off the bat, scrap the punker dude for a stunning looking woman scantly clad (;

As for ideas. How about an Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider scenario where in order to pass on through a gate or find a clue you must first solve a chess puzzle or play some wizard type looking thing,,,,,,(:

Are you trying to get a sarcastic movie like blades of glory or austin powers or an awesome chess movie that's funny, but not too sarcastic. It would be difficult, but I'm sure Erik could have it done no?

I can't believe you have all forgotten the greatest chess movie so far - "Knight Moves", starring Christopher Lambert as a GM. Despite not being about chess, he also starred in a movie called "The Sicilian".

there needs to be a new chess movie.  a story about a guy who is this awesome chess player but listens to punk rock, is tattooed, drives a motorcycle, and party's like a rock star.

That kind of formula movie has been done sooooooooo many times before.  What does it even matter if he plays chess?  He is whatever kind of slacker-virtuoso you like.  Howabout a semi-biographical story about a chess player whoooooo... maneuvers his way out of the soviet union?  Lots of political intrigue, totalitarianism mixed with the state's desire to show off it's best, and a sexy double-agent who might betray the hero.  There, that's a chess movie!

Right on the money with both points!  That's the movie for me!

I saw the movie "searching for Bobby Fisher" about 18 months ago (It has been out for many years) - A friend recommended it to me and I have been a budding chess player ever since -

There is a lot of books about chess that are pretty good, the Demonata series (only the first book) and the Eight, but a good chess movie would be AWESOME

Theres a movie called Revolver. Its got the guy from The Transporter movies(Jason Stathom), directed by Guy Richie. The main characters play chess, it has intrigue, con artists, back stabbibg and revenge. Chess is a main point of the flick, It was good.

Well Searching for Bobby Fischer was an excellent movie and Knights of the South Bronx was good as well. I would hate to see a comical chess movie, only becuase it would seem degrading to players who spend a lot of time learning to play well and are really seroius about it. Plus after trying to make chess more popular in schools across the country, do we really want to impede that by making a comedy about chess? Seems to defeat the initial purpose.

Adam Sandler lol. Like Happy Gilmore. The perfect loser to retain his passion for the game.
