We don't have nearly enough threads on the 1. e4/d4 debate.  More!!!

And this time can we have people be more assertive?  I'm sick of people calling it their 'opinion'. :P

Taking the title of the thread in a non-ironical sense...

Do you prefer to play chess online with silence or with music (if so, what type)?

Do you feel that Tactics Trainer, Chess Mentor, or Chess Videos provide the most useful practice to you right now at your current state of chess knowledge? Why?

Do you prefer correspondence over live games or vice-versa, or do you like both?

What's the relationship between live games with normal time controls and the blitz game (<30 minutes). What skills transfer to blitz, what does the blitz game offer to the normal time control player?

If you reach endgames with material parity in less than 10% of your games (ie a beginner or lower intermediate player), is it still worth studying?

Why are some checkmates more beautiful than others? Is it simply the rarity with which they can be executed in real games, or is there something aesthetically pleasing beyond that?

How can I improve my vision for seeing forced draws when I feel that I am in a losing position?

Bobby Fischer - chess godsend or bigoted nutcase?

Why cheating suks.

Why cheating is ok (cheaters are the real losers).

It's Not Enought Not to be Rude
- or  Politness Enforced.

Who was the Greatest Player of all time?

Would Morphy be more than an expert today?

and others?

Batgirl, I truck your comments, articles etc, I like the way you write and the knowledge you show.

Is your intention above about how many times people can bullsh.. with the same issue??? if yes, I agree with you.

Some people has the need to show their interest in chess foruming issues that are an insult to human intelligence and knowledge!!!

There are others who are waiting for the new daily puzzle just to declare that he is 1st. 2nd. or whatever instead of enjoying (or not) the puzzle.

People, play chess, enjoy the game, and come up with some novelty!!!

Is it Polite-ically Correct to use all caps to say "hello" in chat window at start of game? -- HELLO!

Isn't it racist that white always makes the first move?

If Chess World Champions Alekhine and Fischer were Nazis -- what about the others?

Which is better? A bishop or a knight?

What is the best opening move?

What is the best response to 1. e4?

What are member points?

How does tournament tie-break work?

Does this qualify as cheating?

I could think of about 10,000 more.

Chess books & equipment - Ouija chess board invented.

Help & Support - HELP HELP!  Turning on rybka while playing a game caused my computer to explode!

Sarcastically

GCD - Cheating: Merely a way to achieve chess truth?

GCD - PLAY MY OPENING AND SURVIVE FOR 30 MOVES AGAINST A NATIONAL MASTER!

GCD - Asking to pay for accounts is immoral capitalism.  Why not give accounts away for free?

GCD - HALP HALP MY OPPONENT SAID HE WOULD THREATEN ME WITH C4 IF I PLAYED MY NEXTMOVE!

In the real world people usually have even more banal questions, such as standing in front of a sign that already gives the answer and querying:

"Where is the restroom?"

One time while working in a beachfront concession stand at a popular South Jersey beach and in full view of beach with no obstructions whatsoever I had a grown person ask me:

"Which way to the beach?"

Most amazing to me is that in the 20+ year interval I still have not been able to come up with an adequate zinger for these ocassions that prevents them from re-occuring.  I am working in it, though.

I work security at the sac bee.  The doors are closed from 10 pm to 6 am.  Yet we still have people that walk up to the door and stare at it as if to say, "This door isn't functioning properly".  Then they look confused at me sitting at the desk look at the other door.  If it is an employee I "pleasantly" direct them to the door which they come in every other damn day.

I am hoping one day to see one of them actually run into the door.
