If I have 2 days to fit in a 6 round tournament, and on each day matches start at 9 and finish at 5, with a break of 30 minutes between each round, what is the longest time control I can have?

2 days for 6 rounds so 3 rounds per day with 2 breaks after the first and the second round (each day) which is 1 hour substract that from the original 8 hours (9 to 5) you'll have 7 hours for 3 rounds so just divide 7 by  3 and you'll get the maximum time you can have for both players then divide that by 2 and you have the longest time control. the answer would be 1h10 minutes so you can go with 1 hour for each player

I don't want to nitpick your times but I feel it is 1 hour 16minutes and 39 seconds.

No way you can have a decent tournament with 3 rds a day and still finish at 5pm local time. If you aren't submitting to FIDE you can ignore the increment requirements. Of course, you can always ditch the long game and easily fit in shorter time controls. Remember, you need time to run pairings, announcements, etc. If you're actually asking this then I assume this is a small affair and your entire professional reputation isn't on the line.

  • 8am-11:30am (G/90+30inc)
  • 12:00pm-3:30pm (G/90+30inc)
  • 4:00pm-7:30pm (G/90+30inc)

OR

  • 9am-11:15pm (G/60+5delay)
  • 12pm-2:15pm (G/60+5delay)
  • 2:45pm-5pm (G/60+5delay)
  • Note...there's no time to distribute prizes if 5pm is a hard cut off.

It's just a hypothesis! I bet you can't imagine a world with no hypothetical situations

That is how important hypotheses are
