Why do some players (and I use the term loosely) decide to let their time run out when they are losing?  Then there are the others who let it run to 10 seconds and hope you went away so they can steal a victory.  I usually only play 10 minute games and it annoys me; can't imagine how bad it is at 20 plus minutes a game.  I know the site threatens restriction, but it still seems like it is not enough.  My rant for today.

Now that you got it off your chest, it's time to move on. I believe you can block assholes who do this so that you won't be able to (or have to) play them again.

And don't forget a few peeps who let their clock run out are having ISP and/or PC problems, although if they don't bother getting back to you to explain this they're still assholes IMHO (ASSuming they can speak english of course)

It has been one of the things that pisses me off too. What can you do? Take NimzoRoy idea and block them, that's one. The other is if they take too long to make a move (delaying the game) they violate the fair play policy. The other is like eches said, they're lousy losers. Rude, unsportsmanlike, and stupid.  I know how you feel, either resign the game so I can play someone else or make a move.

WOW!! That's really bad.  I stopped playing 10min games as much to avoid these people, but they're everywhere. 

You all are lucky! I once made my move, then he made his move, then I made my move, and sat there for 10 minutes waiting for his next one! It was NOT fun.

Paying customers are different, but I think any NON paying people at this site who violates the fair play policy more than two or three times a month should be banned from the site.  That would at least get the cheap losers out of here!

This is the mild version, there's a much sneakier version. They start to let their time run down, then with a few seconds left they then move - they are hoping that you've opened another game window and are playing someone else, satisfied that you are going to win the game on time. So now I've learned that you have to sit it out until the end when someone lets their time run down, to cover against this.

Yeah, I've played against some knob who tried this on me too.

I take it badly because it is a collossal waste of time.  Yes the biggest losers are the ones who try to "sneak" in a victory because they are not talented enough to win fairly..  They ARE the biggest knobs. It would just be nice to show a little courtesy and either play to the end or resign.  Guess I'll just start blocking and shut up now.  Rant over. 

All of you should not assume that everyone fall in that category.

I haven't played many games. But on one that I am playing I am waiting using the time to look and hoping I can make up my mind which of the possible moves is the best to make.

Since I have about six different choices.

I am not trying to win or cheat using my time. I am trying to see something on the game that I might have just missed. I just might lose because the time will expire before I get back to the computer in time.

I am playing on a Team match and they are 3 day moves.

Maybe it is different on individual games and I only had about four of them.

Bathroom break, uncork, put the kettle on, doodle, think about the paradox that would occur if one were to tape a jelly sandwich to a cats back and flip the combination of the two like a coin, settle disputes between family members over the phone, pushups(?!), dishes(???) and finally spend time thinking about how fragile the human ego can be. :)

This happens to me ALL THE TIME in 30 minutes game. I don't deal with the bs. If they want to wait it out, bring it on. I'll wait.

I'd complain even more but according to Waitzkin we get people like this even on the masters level, so I suppose we have to deal with it.

Rudeness is one the biggest drawbacks of playing on a free server - though actually it hasn't been nearly as bad here as on FICS.

happened to me twice today during 30 minute games, im new to chess and am still learning, kind of puts the damper on the experience. i won the two games but thats not how i wanted to win, and i know they did it in purpose too because i had them in tight spots. 

It has happened to me 5 times maybe........al in 30 mins games!!! once I had to wait for 27 mins

yeah man, thats not even cool, excuse me is this is a noob question, but is there a way to make it so that if you dont make a move within an allowed time it just makes you resign.
