Timeout protection - why on earth?

Why on earth is this a feature here on Chess.com? There is a reason why there is a time limit on the games, and that is; make your move within the time limit or lose. I understand that sometimes you have to go away for a few days, but this protection is really unfair - and very annoying. Ged rid of it!

This is the difference between correspondance and live chess, I understand the time protection on livechess, you have to make all your moves in 30minutes or you've lost.

This isn't the same in correspondance, time isn't a factor here, there is no such a thing as time management, the time is only meant as a guideline for how long the game will last, and vacation time is to make sure no games are lost due to being on vacation, sick, away from internet or whatnot.

The vacation time is also limited, no one can go on vacation forever (although it feels like that sometimes).

But the amount of vacation allowed seems excessive. I understand that 'time trouble' needn't be an issue with correspondence chess, and people may be on holiday or sick for lengthy periods of time. Still, the 90 DAYS allowed as a reward for buying a premium membership is extreme. If you can't make a move for 90 days perhaps you'll have to lose the game rather than hold up everyone else's tournament while they all wait for you. Also, I think more vacation time for more expensive membership is childish: we all have to accept the same rules in chess and that should include the amount of vac.
