I don't know if anyone else has noticed but I've really noticed a decrease in trophies given to people. Most people are lucky if they have a few I'd say.
When I play a game I almost feel obligated to give my opponent a trophy, at the very least a good game. I know that I get quite a few trophies (mainly I reason because I give them one), but a lot less than I used to. I think a trophy is a great way to show your opponent you enjoyed the game or to show them where you think they are strongest or express how you feel towards the game. I only wish more people would give a trophy because I think such a small gesture really goes a long way.
Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

I think the reason is that Chess.com decided to focus on friendly trophies. If there were ones like "Bad sport", "Lol n00b" or "Sore loser", trophies would be used much more often in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more! It is always nice to get a trophy, especially one that has a nice message along with it!
That's a good point, but then again the trophies are typically to praise then to bash. I think they really want to reinforce "community here"

Hi guys,
I agree completely. I really like it when my opponent takes the time after a game (win or lose) to ... well ... to talk to me. These little 'trophies' are a nice little way of doing that. I almose always send them along with a comment. I receive a few back. I like getting them. I used to play 'welcoming' games. I always sent them after 'welcoming' games. I thought it was a nice gesture for our new members.

I think that chess.com or anyone else should open a new forum for this topic and ask the community at large for suggestions with images or pictures for suggestions and text to go along with the proposal and chess.com could select at least another 100 trophies to be given out.
And when new trophies are added to the site a logical grouping should also be implemented: loosers, funny, winners, need another chance to prove my superiority, crushed, played my best but... etc...
This subject has been flogged to death by this site with to date no decision being taken to add many other trophies, a few have been added, perhaps a pool amongst the members as to the pertinence of adding new trophies based on the input of the community, I mean the participation, would add some weight to the request and place in the top 10 priorities.
Customers or here members satisfaction is always of prime importance.
So we all need to pool in and support the idea.
Anyone ready for this topic? Do you really believe in it? I willsupport it 100%.

I like the idea of breaking them up into categories. Erik, if it's a matter of time priorities, I'll volunteer to compile submitted suggestions and sort through and suggest groupings for existing trophies so staff's time input wouldn't need to be as high.

When I first joined this site I gave and received a lot of trophies, now it has trickled off. That's OK. I don't need to give or receive a trophy for every game. An occaisional Good Game for an especially good battle and a Good Sportsmanship trophy when warranted is enough.

I also love the idea of trophies, and I remember how nice it felt getting my first game trophy (especially since it was given by Kochai). It also feels nice, of course to give them - when they are really deserved. Awarding them freely would cheapen their value and meaning, sort of like the standing ovation that all performers now receive in the U.S. Everything in proportion!
sort of like the standing ovation that all performers now receive in the U.S.
Of course, not all standing ovations are the same. I mean, people continued standing after the performance when Roseanne Barr sang the national anthem at the baseball game, but that was just so they could throw their hotdogs farther out onto the field.

I give a trophy out after every game (win or lose) unless they time out. But I just saw someone with a new "Sorry about your time out" trophy, so now I can give one after those games too. I also like to look in their trophy case first and give them one they don't already have. Chess.com is always adding new ones, so it's rarely a problem, especially since, as you say, very few people give them out. I've played 376 games and only received 41 trophies. That's only about 1 in 9.
That's only about 1 in 9.
I've gotten 1 out of 28 games! Unless I get to count the initial one I got when I joined. That would double my productivity.

I don't think anyone "designed" the trophies here, picked from the net. After seeing the artistry of FirebrandX, Erik should ask him to design some real and nice trophies!!

I sent a few when trophies first came out; but past the first, say, month, I never really bothered with them ever again. I do like it when I get a trophy that actuallhy means something, like when I get one for good pawn movements; but the ones that say "good game" or something along those lines, it would just be easier to say it to the person.
From what I can see, most people agree; so long as the trophies mean something, I'm all for it.

I would send more trophies if I could opt to delete the auto text and replace it with my own.
You can add the text you want in the optional box. It's true though that what the trophy says gets old sometimes. I agree that it would be nice to have that option though.
