it'd have to be a replay of a game with all the thinking edited out.  we've talked about this before...  i'd watch it.  can you imagine watching Morphy...?  that would be pretty great.

How about Discovery Channel or the History Channel running a documentary on the history of chess and its champions? Or was it already done by some other channel?

Question for anyone living in Russia- do they have chess programs on television there?

Anyway. I think we could easily make a chess channel. Live tournament feeds, grandmaster lessons, game analysis, puzzles- but who would fund such a thing? I mean, even football clubs have their own channels these days. So does Nintendo. And Ocean Finance.

i wouldn't have minded watching the world championship match of lasker vs tarrasch 1908. the reaction of tarrasch as lasker accused of him of having hypnotic powers would've been quite the entertainment...

Simple, turn Chess.com into Chess.org and a non-profit, then rack up donations until we have enough money for the tv station while Eric and friends starveCry

The Fischer vs. Spassky match was on TV. Fischer wouldn't allow cameras in the match room - claimed the russians could use them in some devious manner to control his mind. So the moves were called in to the TV station. Shelby Lyman was the program moderator. He had guests on Arthur Bisguire, Bent Larson, and others. The group would analyze the current position and try to predict the next move and determine the strategies of each player. The play lasted for 5 hours and I sat in my living room all 5 hours with a chess board sitting on a stool  in front of me, gradually getting a headache trying to follow what they were saying. Note: I had just started playing chess.

So chess has been on TV. It held the audience's attention for 5 hours - not just 30 minutes. TV has not been the same since.Smile

To tell the truth, I would like to see tapes of that show - if they still exist.
