Uneducated chess players frustrating?

Are people who play Chess, but have never studied the game frustrating to learned Chess players? Just curious.

I enjoy it, but play by the seat of my pants....don't know a Sicilian from a hole in the ground. I'm sure it's obvious to those who have studied that I haven't. I'm still having fun and basically wanted to exercise my brain a little.

    Just curious.

I dunno about frustrating but sometimes I find playing against uneducated opponents harder since you never know what to expect.

I guess I use the word frustrating because in my 30 something wins I think only two are by checkmate....the remainder are either resignation or timed out.

I have had numerous games where I luck into a good move and capture a queen and they immediately quit.

Some better players know when they are beaten, and will resign, as to not waste the time involved. You should always play the game till the end though. This will teach you how to finish off an opponent. Losing a game is the best way to learn.

It may save time, and it may be etiquette to resign when you are so far behind, you are likely to learn more if you play to the end; after all, we all had to start from the beginning, and some players seem to have forgotten that.

I do not find it frustrating to play anyone of whatever skill level. I am always willing to play an unrated game so as not to take advantage of a beginner, but I usually hesitate to suggest it as I am concerned that the person may feel insulted.

Playing with a nice person, particularly if there are some comments with a sense of humor is always gratifying to me. I do not like it when I greet someone with a cheery "hello" and they do not respond, or when someone makes an irritating remark. There are some people on this sight whom I just like playing, even if there are few words, because it feels friendly.

I joined this site about 5 days ago with about the same ability as you. I lost my first 6 games and won my 7th. Never felt that I was annoying more experienced players. In fact one offered me an unrated rematch where I can correct my errors.

In addition I joined a group whose members include people with ratings over 2000. These experts have gladly assisted me in learning by my errors.

The only time I really get frustrated is if I lose a match and think "I am capable of better than this."  I really don't mind losing so much if I think "well theres nothing I could have done about that one."

the only frusterating thing is how quickly they can throw you out of the book. otherwise it is a fun game with a unique outcome.

"I should be punishing my opponent for this out-of-book non-correct move, but I can't see how" this use to be frustrating for me.

Really?!  That's when it gets fun--and when the unique outcome occurs.

Poor play by any of the partners is disgusting.

I couldn't agree more, Natalia. Poor play by anyone - I don't care who it is - makes me sick to the stomach. It makes me mad that in the twenty-first century, after four billion years of evolution, two world wars, and nearly a dozen Bon Jovi albums, some people still have the temerity to play chess poorly. My marriage ended after my so-called wife tried to hang on to her extra pawn in a Queen's Gambit Accepted. I couldn't believe it. I thought I knew her after ten years of marriage, but I was wrong. We were never the same after that, and she's only got herself to blame. Thank God there are still people in this benighted world who have the basic decency to avoid poor play.
