US May have a new Bobby Fischer

I just got finished looking at the last 2.5 years of her tournaments. She's a solid class A player at the moment. She definately has been able to play in national & international tournaments. She played in last Novembers world youth championships, the girls under 10 section. I'm sure she will be in this years WYC also. She didn't have a rating going into that (fide, the only one used internationally)   http://chess-results.com/tnr84654.aspx?art=1&rd=11&lan=1&flag=30&wi=821   The results showed she performed at 1417. 5.5 out of 11 games. Finished ranked #64 out of 126 girls her own age. I think she will get to play in the same section this year. I'm sure she will do better this year, I think that was the first WYC she plyed in. I'm sure she will be playing a lot more of the important tournaments, she's already played some of them. We will see.

Carissa Yip, a nine year old, has reach USCF rating of 2000, expert! She could break the record for master which I think is 12?   I think she has been playing for two or three years. She plays blind folded chess as well. Just think a female Bobbie Fischer. Good Luck little girl!!

Carissa has great potential. The results have been mis-stated in the press, not surprisingly. She briefly went over the 2000 mark and has since slipped back a bit. She is playing alot and her rating will go up again soon. Although she doesn't seem pre-occupied with the record, she has about a year to catch Awonder Liang's record for reaching 2200 (he has currently slipped back below that level as well). 200+ points in a year is no piece of cake, but it is certainly doable - kids at lower levels make these kinds of jumps all the time. It was erroneously reported that Fischer did not reach the 2200 until he was 15. Completely false - as we know Fischer was the youngest grandmaster in history at 15.

Bobby F was not the youngest grandmaster in history. Judit Polgar is. She was younger by one month.

Wrong and wrong. Fischer was the youngest in history when he broke the record, Polgar was the youngest when she broke the record, but the current record holder is Sergey Karjakin, about 3 years younger than both of them when he became a GM.

Exactly.  The interesting thing is the huge gap in years between Fischer and Polgar but the relatively shorter gaps between those following Polgar.  Lends strong support to the ratings inflation enthusiasts.

What is the most efficient way of training a young talent like Carissa?  She likes to have a normal life just like the other girls next door.  Going to big tournaments takes a lot of time and money.

This is the list of us players for world youth chess championship 2013.

Although she is not as strong as the top kids in the world, she is not that weak.

You mean "MISS" Bobby Fischer......Plus, no one will replace him......evan if he is dead.

TheBlueKnight9

But if she can get the world title by the age 16.........then that would be cool.

Please.  US already has the Backyard Professor.  Two modern day Fischer's ? I think not.

a 2000 player isn't a 2650 player.  even at 10 yrs.

It's funny then, how so many people on here, say Josh Waitzkin could have easilly been a GM, even though he wasn't rated 2000 till 11.

I dont think there will ever be a female world chess champion. Women arent the brightest!

In modern society what one's gender is, can be a matter of preference on any given day.  Today, I feel like a women, so I will participate in the women's events.  If someone objects, I will accuse them of gender discrimination and bias.  Violating my human rights.

You think I am joking, but this very thing is happening in the school system and other places.  Too bad it was prevalent when I went through high school.  Would have given me a reason to shower with the girls that I fancied :) :) :)

I had a chess playing friend of mine tell me last week that a kid named Alphonse Grabokowicz is rated 2400 FIDE........he was born last week, so that makes him about two weeks old now.

BigDoggProblem

I know this kid who may be the next Bobby Fischer. He's virulently Anti-Semitic. Oh, and he's a decent chess player too.
