I guess I understand why the vacation time is limited, since players could annoy their opponents by going on vacation forever, or abuse the feature by going on vacation everytime they need a long time to think. But still, I think the vacation days are too few. Sometimes, I save vacation days from work and later go on vacation for months. When someone has run out of vacation days, they can't ever take a short brake from playing, so they will need to quit most games not to risk losing too many, if they can't use a computer for a couple of days...

Can't you get a kind of refill of vacation days if you need them?

How would you decide who really needs more time and those that just say they do in order to get more time?

Davidmingming, yes I know it's 40 days and how to see how many there's left. That's not the problem.

Markle - I guess the system could be more generous and fair to everyone, by giving back 2-3 vacation days for every day your NOT on vacation. That way, you can be on a vacation for 30-40 days, be back for some weeks, and then you can, for example, be sick for a week, without losing (this time, I'm on vacation because friday-saturday, I was really sick and didn't feel like chess).

You could also grant people days who ASK for more days (not so many people would do this).

Clownfish- I see your point, sometimes i get really terrible headaches and it just doesn't pay for me to play chess during those times because i can't concentrate, but i just feel it would be like anything else people would cheat the system and deny the honest people the chance to use more vacation when they really need it.Hope you are feeling better.

Another factor to consider is to set up the games yu play to 5 days.  By doing this you only need to make very few moves per month and save your vacation days for when you really need them.  Given that you might take a three day leave of absence from work, you could make your moves before you leave and make moves when you return.

U're right, JediMaster, but then again - usually I want to play faster games than that! If I meet an opponent that always wait 5 days I lose track of the game!

"Refill" at the end of the year means that any problems with limited vacation will worsen there, before christmas. Doesn't make things better!

That's the way to DEAL with it, not to make it better, though!

It seems to me that some people would take 300 days a year "vacation" if they could. Surprised

the problem with vacations is that they affect more than 1 person :( we have to compromise.

Not counting school, college, university employees, I doubt many people take more than 40 days of vacation a year.

Well, if you include long weekends, vacation, some extremely busy days, perhaps some sick days - 40 days would not be impossible, especially if you managed to save some days. My vacation per year is 31 workdays (not including weekends)...

A constantly refilling budget of vacation days would be the best, imo!

I think most working class Americans dont know what its like to have 30 days a year paid vacation time. The only time I ever had that much vacation time was when I was in the military.

I do work for the government, but that's  beside the point. In Sweden, similar amounts of v-days is not uncommon!
