    Hi all,

    I'm new to this site.

I've always wanted to host a chessclub, and could use some advice on startup,

dues, membership issues etc. Not really sure where to start except I envision us meeting once monthly and I do have a possible location.

    Thanks.

Once a month doesn't sound frequent enough to me.

It gives very little time for a Annual Club Championship, matches against other clubs, theme and/or blitz tourneys, your AGM, all the stuff that makes a club work.

    Just my opinion.....

I agree. I think a weekly meeting should be the very minimum for both logistical reasons and to maintain interest. You should also make sure that the chess enthusiasts in your area can communicate in a common language. I didn't join the local club here because although I can speak three languages (Hebrew, English and Spanish), none of the club members can.
