People all around the world watch matches of football, rugby, tennis and many more things. But why don't people watch chess players playing against each other.I would love to watch chess players compete in a tournament in my TV. What do you think, would you like to watch chess or would you find it boring?
I would watch Grandmasters playing with a big analysis board and running analysis. I don't think there are enough of us to get chess on TV. If the TV executives thougt they could make money showing chess they would certainly do it.
No, I would not want to watch chess on TV. Either the analysis would be above my level of understanding and thus not enjoyable or below my level of understanding and thus boring.
Chess does not translate well at all to TV.
In all of the sports that are popular on TV, it doesn't take long at all for someone to learn the goal of the game (how you win/score) and how to tell who is winning. Once you know that it can be entertaining to watch people try to beat other at this.
The same simply isn't true for chess. You can invest years of your life in the game and still have trouble understanding how masters win or decide who is winning in the middle of a game. I personally enjoy watching chess matches, but I understand why most people wouldn't. It's too hard to tell who is winning and why!
I saw chess on tv once, on ESPN 2 early in the morning during the summer. It sucked.
Now maybe you could get a weekly chess show off the ground, where someone offers lessons weekly.
They used to show grandmaster games on TV but since it died down abit and Poker is the biggest thing right now (even tho you don't need skill) chess will not be on...
i'd watch it. i'd have a hard time waiting for the next move sometimes, but i think it would be fun to watch. saying that, i don't think many would watch. it'd be like watching snooker or darts. some would, many wouldn't.
there ARE ways to make it more exciting--but as i keep being told by big brother, this is a family site.
If they did put it on tv again they would probably put already completed games on...
