What can chess do in helping the world environmentally?
Firstly, I think we could raise funds from tournaments to fund and protect Mangroves, because it is a vital part of our ecosystem.
Right now, that is what I've come up with so far, any other suggestions?
There are alot of chess tourneys done for charity. Also Chess in the schools helps kids learn to focus and achieve goals.
Chess does alot for the world.
Chess need not do anything.
People should.
Anybody who wants to repair something has to know the exact condition of that thing. The people who truly care about the environment have probably given the issue a long-term thought from both their own angle and the environment's angle. Playing chess is a very effective way of strengthening one's ability to think deep and from different viewpoints. In this regard, while chess doesn't help to increase environmental awareness, it somewhat helps to understand the situation of the environment better.

There is no evidence that supports this claim, particularly the latter part of that statement.

There is no need or time to try to understand the situation of the environment better, it will not help. As richie_and_oprah said, chess shouldn't help, people should. We need to take action instead of trying to understand whats going on. In my opinion, we know enough.
