If you had checked there, you would know that the name is not given. Nor is the name in The Oxford Companion to Chess, which lists 1327 named openings and variations, nor at Chess Archaeology. I asked the question because I had already checked some standard reference works to no avail.

Why not call it the Dutch, Ziryab Variation? You've looked at it and become interested in the line. From 3. Bg5, it's a fairly successful line for white , winning nearly 50%, with draws and Black wins roughly neck and neck at around 25% each, based on 225 games on the Chessgames database (played between 1857 and 2008).

Any of those games feature a cat named Ziryab? I haven't played it, but saw it in an interesting game that White lost last night at club. White was playing an opponent 500+ Elo higher.
