what should I do if someone use his vacation always in the tournament? Isnt ilegal to use your vacation in not right manners.  This guy after he make a move he use his vacation.  After his vacation laps he use again it and again and again.  He use to online but yet he did not make a move.  And then he use his vacation again.  So what should I do, could I report it? where?...

You only have a finite amount of vacation time.  If he's really using it after every move, it probably can't go on for much longer.

yes I thought his finite amount of vacation will not much go on but still he can use his vacation.  When I read the vacation setting i saw that it is not legal when you use it in wrong manner just like to extend your time, or other purposes just to extend or delay the game.  Isn't that chess.com monitor this kind of action? thanks for the reply...

It's pretty hard to conclusively prove your opponent's intentions with vacation usage. It should also say when he's in vacation mode how many days/hours he has left to use.

It happens all the time.  Just forget about it and concentrate on the other games.

I have a player doing this to me. It's a pain in the butt but what can you do? The vacation rules are there to be abused and they are.

Personally, I feel it's the one thing that spoils chess.com. If your time runs out, you should lose, just like in real life or over the board. It's only a game of chess, after all.

That's true but it would be quite annoying to loose a game that you otherwise would win but you can't, because you are on a vacation.

thanks for the reply guys...I think I'll be more focus on my games, ignore those vacation and played well and be sure to be online always so that I'll not lose my game assuming they still on vacatio...and not checking if it is my turn...

    1) If you see them sign in every day, or they are even online when on vacation.
    2) If they are in a lost game, and/or if it is the only game they are playing (in which case you know they are doing it for your game)

By what logic is *this* abuse while auto-vacation-protection by paid members is *not* a much greater abuse? This is *manual* timeout-protection.

see 'status' in my profile: it says 'simulating auto-timeout protection'. Although I am not playing any game as of typing this.

By putting this in my 'status' line I am sending the message that 'simulating auto-timeout protection' is legitimate use of vacation.

What the paid members among you whining people are complaining about is that "I have paid, so I should get a huge psychological advantage in every game against free members." THAT IS HUGE ABUSE. The paid members among you whining people are perpetual abusers, by definition of auto-timeout.

Before you moan and whinge about time out/vacation. perhaps you should consider why a person has to use his/her vacation time. I have just discovered that I have cancer and I have been in hospital for major surgery. My treatment is making me feel extremely ill and some days I just cannot play (although playing is my salvation at times) so I have to rely on auto vacation to save my games. Other people on this site have troubles too, so you should maybe think yourself lucky that its not you that has to use all your vacation time because of illness or trouble. Just show some consideration to others, especially when you don't know why.......

It's happened to me before, I JUST DO IT BACK.

I think there should be an arbitrate group. i.e. active members of say 24. when an abuse appears as described by you whiteR... then you can submit a complaint. This group can then review the board (material, time, position) and if the appears to be in your favor then the abuse is adjudged probable and a win is accorded to you by majority rule. The arbitrade group must vote within 24 hours, and the decision is final. Chess.com then awards the point. That I think should eliminate this problem.

I have used vacation once. I like it because I make frequent travel to remote places that does not provide internet access.

This is why I don't get excited about vacations. We don't know peoples situations and at best have to judge their intentions for taking a vacation. For example, I work during the day, go to school at night, and a family involved with school activities.

Burchgsb: That is a salient point. Perhaps you should start a group, where people can join and play knowing most would use the auto vacation (how does that work anyway?). Then you are happy and you dont subject others unnecessary stress and coronaries.

It is most unwise to tar everyone with the same brush. People may have legitimate grievance with your wide generalisation. If you didn't mean to make such a wide generalisation, perhaps you would like to focus it a little, or perhaps make less vitriolic comments.

I said: "The paid members among you whining people are perpetual abusers, by definition of auto-timeout."

I meant paying member when I mistyped paid member; if that's the source of potential/actual offence, I apologise.

    Reading paying for paid :

    1. Think about it: it does follow from the definition! :)

    2. Look at the posts above. So far, in this thread no paying member has whined about vacation 'abuse'.

So, so far I have offended no one! Or no poster at any rate :)

There is a deeper problem here: chess.com is the only site which gives paying members an advantage in play. So even if I became a paying member; either I'd do so because I had decided to play no games here; OR I'd only play paying-members in the same category as me (potassium-copper-silver-gold-diamond-platinum-plutonium-whatever). Otherwise I'd feel that I am cheating.

In the above paragraph, 'I' means a hypothetical person who has a sense of fair play and who thinks about this logically.
