I actually wondered what teaches better, chess.com with it's chess mentor, tactics trainer and all that, or joining a chess club and get coached by someone. I was in a club a few years ago, not anymore now, and I feel that chess.com has taught me more in 2 months than my coach in 1 year. What are your thoughts about this?

The best option is a good chess coach since they're the only ones who can ask what you're thinking and correct bad thought processes.

Chess Mentor strives to do this, but it's simply impossible to write good notes for each potential move to help such a wide variety of students. All in all, it is an excellent resource and I've certainly noticed a great improvement in my play, going from utterly inept to only blunders every other move.

I suppose if you're casual in any way that CM+tactics trainer and the new computer workout are superb and low-cost options that will continue to provide benefit up to master strength. If you're truly serious about gaining the most rating in the quickest time, then seeking out the right coach could be more efficient, but also costly and a greater demand on your time.

Both would be my approach.

Some people don't like to take advice from people.
