    where is micheal adams to has he retired? it was anounced nigel Short is  board 1 for the olympiad with mcshane, howell, and jones with a talented steven gordan as reserve if adams was there then medals r us England that is with a couple of board prizes now mabee top 10 will do what do you think

    British Championships, University of Canterbury from 25th July to 11th August.

    London Chess Classic 2010, 8-15 December 2010 at the Olympia Conference Centre.

    Not snubbed. Just not worth participating. Chess relies on patronage.

    Not just chess - almost all contending Olympians in the summer and winter sports have some sort of sponsorship arrangements, and they are supposed to be amateurs.  You can't expect a professional to compete for free.

    National federations rarely have enough money to do more than pay some token expense honoraria, private sponsors always pick up the tab.  For GMs the tab is higher and for 2700 players it is higher still.

    It's good that funding came through and Mikey will play!
