Which games has more moves - chess or draughs (is this spelt right?)?

When I was younger I was told that draughs has more potential moves, but there was no real explanation.

Can any one expand on this?

I would definitely say chess has more moves. I haven't played draughts for years, but the pieces (apart from queens) can only move forwards.

it's chess.  chess has an infinite number of moves (although you can say that about any game).  But i read somewhere that there are more possible chess positions than there are particles in the universe, so that must mean there are a corresponding number of moves.

    Depends which kind ido...

    From wiki!

"The number of legal positions in English draughts is estimated to be 1020, and it has a game-tree complexity of approximately 1031. By comparison, chess is estimated to have between 1043 and 1050legal positions."

Doesn't have than info for International draughts. At least that I could find in a quick scan. The bigger board should increase the number signifigantly though I would think.

Sure, you can say it. If you don't mind being wrong.

I agree - number of moves and possible positions after say - 10 moves are 2 distinctly different things.  But the number of available moves depends on the position.

A new game in chess has 20 moves for white and 20 possible positions.

Black in responce has 20 possible moves and this makes 400 possible positions.  It is obvious that posible positions grow quicker than possible moves.
