I would guess it depends on the caliber of the opponents.

    Better to DRAW than LOSE!

for me, it is better to draw than lose, too.  however, i don't try to draw all games.  if my opponent is rated higher than me, even if i am slightly (a pawn or i have better position) ahead, and my opp. offers a draw i will take it knowing i might screw up and thus blow the win.  if i am ahead slightly and, say it's a "pawn and bishops of opposite color" endgame.  my opp. offers a draw, i refuse and try to push the pawns (often very poorly lol).  i don't know where i'm going with this, but i'd say the answer to the question is, as ikagan said, "depends on the caliber of the opponents."

Drawing against a lower rated oppenent often makes me feel a bit bitter though. I will always try to get into the endgame against lower rated opponents. They have a bigger chance of slipping up than me, but then again its me we're talking about here. Wink

If both players scored 2.5, and some tie-break method was required, I'd give it to the player who managed to WIN some games.

Getting an advantage in chess is one thing but converting it into a win is considerably harder. Players often gain an advantage of one kind or another but still can't manage to force their way past the winning post. So, for tie-break purposes, a win outweighs two draws.

They're even. 2.5=2.5 so they should have a play-off. (probabally blitz) It's not as if drawing is not a legal part of chess. Maybe it's cheap, but within the rules of the game...

For me they're even: draw is 0.5 points.  But if you provided more details, my answer might be different.  Winning/drawing with Black is better than the other way around...
