Why chess players are changed?

In the past, chess was a game almost for serious people, like Dr. Lasker or Dr. Tarrasch. But today a lot of rude, arrogant people play chess. Why?

Well I'm active in my local tournament scene and. I have had nothing but good experiences with other chess players. As an adult beginner I have had plenty of high rated players help me out and took a genuine interest in my quest for improvement.....not to mention other similar players like myself who are starting out too......so my experiences in chess has been nothing but positive...

StrategicPlay

80% negative experiences for me. Online and OTB included.

kco

90% positive experiences for me both online and otb.

pdve

because of chess getting more competitive maybe.

Xilmi

Have you personally been in the past to verify that every chess-player back then was as serious as Dr. Lasker or Dr. Tarrasch and are absolutely sure that no rude or arrogant people played chess?

First prize for dumbest question ever...

Because we enjoy it?

kco

But his question is better than yours PI.

I do not think in the past chess was a game for serious people... Come on, chess players always have been crazy... I do not remember who wanted to play against God without one pawn.

I mean, in the past there weren't rude player who laugh at the opponent when they win and start to cry and accuse of cheat when they lose, there weren't people who believed to be "smart" only because they "play" chess. Today's chess players are rude kids.

How do you know, where you around back then??

Xilmi

Yeah, that was exactly my question.
How can you be so sure about it was like you claim?

History usually is full of lies and deception. If you just have read or been told it was like that and you believe it blindly without prove, then your claim is nothing but a theory.

ProfBlunderer

So compare GM like Lasker or Rubinstein to modern GM like Carlsen or Nakamura.

Xilmi

Are you suggesting that Carlsen and Nakamura are rude, arrogant, laugh at their opponent when they win and start to cry and accuse of cheat when they lose?

You_Know_Poo

In the past we had like 10 million people, but now we have 7 billion. Why?

chess doesnt affect the kind of person u are, it reflects it.

I'm tempted to print this out, put a frame around it and hang it in my room. Very nice. Smile

No, I'm not saying this, I'm just comparing old GM vs new GM. But most amateurs are rude and arrogant. But see the video in which Carlsen leave a game after he moved the wrong piece. He is a kid. And Nakamura among the other top gm is see as a stupid, because instead of study and train he waste his time playing bullet, if he study more he could be a lot stronger (and he is already a lot strong, se you could imagine), he is not so serious.

Bubert

Are you talking about a rudeness over the internet only? Or have you been experienced any rudeness towards you on offline tournaments?
