why do people hate it when their opponent doesn't accept a rematch?!?!?

I've been on this site for about six months and every now and then people will figuratively throw a fit when I won't accept a rematch. In fact twice today this has happened with people saying things like "so you are like the others ... one game and run" and the question I must ask is why do they care so much! It's almost like I can't analyze a game afterwards and they are so important that I have to play another. Can't these people get over their silly pride and realize it's just a game. Doesn't anyone else find this annoying? That's it I'd just like to know.

i'm sure it's different in every case. why does it bother that it bothers them? can't you get over your silly pride and realise it's just a game?

i played a guy once, beat him 8 times in a row, he kept coming back for more. in the 9th game, i blundered a few times and he won. he was in 7th heaven jugding from his delighted comments in the chat box. all the dude wanted was a win

Even if I win that 1 game, I don't like when people quit after 1 game... I don't know what it is but the less waiting time in-between games of a blitz session the better.

Aside from that, it's also fun to play a series and adjust your openings against the same opponent.

However... I think most of us can relate to this situation.  You're playing someone rated 200 points higher or so, and you can tell they're legitimately better, but you hang in there and pull out a win in the end.  Here comes the rematch request and we're unsure if we want to accept a game vs a better player who is also hungry for revenge Laughing

Doesn't it feel great to beat that guy who was playing really well?  We want to wear that glow for awhile without tarnishing it with a loss.  That's why they call it running away Wink

And on the reverse side, some cheeky -200 player who doesn't play very well, cashes in on one blunder (or wins on time) and you lost a game you feel you should have won.  They're glowing but you're frustrated and want a chance at redemption.

At the first sign of rudeness just no-chat them.

I rarely play Live Chess, but I could care less about rude people there. That's why there's an option to block chat. Why do you care so much about something so trivial?

What I find annoying is people who don't believe in global warming or who do believe in pseudo-science such as astrology and creationism...you know, important stuff to get annoyed about.

That's not always the case.  I've played where I'm winning maybe 1 out of 10 games and just want to keep playing because they're style or openings are interesting and good.

The ones that lose 8 times in a row and then immediately quit on game 9 with a win are a somehow annoying.  Maybe a good analogy is the difference between a debate and an argument so to speak.  You feel like you're having this meaningful exchange of ideas over the board and come to find out they could care less and just want a good result.

I think it is because, they want a chance to beat you again. They probably think that if they were the other color, they would have an advantage. Now that they know how you like to play, they want to change strategies because, they know you will probably try the same thing and they will have the advantage. In general, some people can't accept defeat and are poor sports.

In American English, the phrase means the same thing. I always found it quite irritating to be honest, saying that you at least care a bit in order to say that you don't care at all.

For my two cents worth: I don`t think anyone should take it personnally when someone refuses a rematch. I will accept a rematch if the game we just completed no matter who won or lost. was a good match, with same strength. However if I feel my opponent is way better than I am, I won`t bother. Do I have to give you a reason? . And sometimes you just placed your request too late. I've already started another game. So there you go.

It should be left to the individual without having to to feel guilty about it.

    I`ll play a game with you, I don`t owe you my life..lol

As far as over-the-board (i.e. real life) games are concerned, I don't play with a clock, and I pour a lot of time and energy into my games. So after the first game, I'm usually done, regardless of whether I win or not. But undoubtedly, my opponent starts setting up the pieces before I even get a chance to stand up and stretch my legs. Then when I tell him I'm done for the day, the huffing and puffing and bawling begins...
