ummm, Black can't make any real progress, that's why it's a draw.

White seems a touch better, with better coordination and an extra pawn but black's queen constantly attacking the white pawns and threatening possible checks on the king probably make a win impossible for white. His rook and knight are doing a good job trapping the king but it's unfortunately not quite enough to seriously threaten any kind of mate.

White certainly could have played on though, and stalemate tricks like ...Qg1+?? Kxg1 h2+ (with the king moved h2 is now free!) Kh1! (or even Kg2) don't work here.

    Wow, lots of deleted comments.

I does seem impossible for White to make any progress. e.g.1...Qb1 2.Nd5 Qf1 and the threat of a mate on g2 seems to paralyze White. Maybe I missed something, but it does look drawn, although not at first glance

Well, there certainly is drawing potential.

I don't see why anyone would argue with this outcome...Looks pretty difficult for both players, and perhaps neither wanted to put a lot of energy into a likely drawed game.

Neither side can make any real progress without endangering own position.

the position is not that simple:

in the 50 th move knight shud hav gone to f5 posing fork to both king and queen

@laskerfan: ...Qb1 is better, keeping an eye on the b file and otherwise doing the same thing as ...Qd3.

I feel like white should beable to win from this position, i'm sure it's not an easy win.

What game are you looking at?

@Elubas: yes, shuttling betrween f1 (when N not at e3) and b1(when knight is at e3) is the best hope for black to get a draw.

White was chicken - he apparently offered the draw.  Maybe Black can draw it, but I would make him show me how.

Yeah, I'd make black prove it.  In the position after my 52.Kg3 black may very well have a draw, but it would be a tortuous draw and I feel like the practical chances lie with white.

The computer only thinks white is slighty better, but since there are more than 6 pieces on the board it's probably not something to trust.

Definitely.  Just playing this out against myself / analysing, black keeps getting into trouble.  Especially if you were up on time, this would definitely be worth playing out as white.

Although if my opponent were rated 500 higher, and I had a minute left and he offered me a draw like a wimp... I'd probably chicken out and accept Smile

Erhm after Qd6 in your analysis Knight can fork black king and queen with Nf5!!
