    Kanajun,

Have you ever thought about why we sleep.  I mean, besides the fact that the body and brain need 6 to 8 hours of sleep in order to repair themselves.

I sleep, because I need to get away from myself and my extremely annoying idiosycracies for 6 to 8 hours!

Snakesbelly! Im sorry if i might of offended, im new to the "forums" and i see people arguing all the time, and i like a good argument or as us brits call "Banter" ie Nothing personal. I do however sense we may have similar "crack"  another "Brit" slang.

After watching "Maxedouts" video, the Two US women almost boxing over a game of chess. I may have to rethink my position on women in chess. please, may i extend my apologies again...

    "why isn't chess more friendly?"

well, first off it was created by beelzebub.

second it's basically martial arts in slow motion, distilled, put into a beaker and examined with a microscope....if you were fighting bruce lee with nunchucks, I don't think friendliness would do you any good unfortunately

you want friendly? I have the perfect game for you. hopscotch.

also, I think it's kind of ridiculous to play fast time controls with real pieces and a real board.

no, it wasn't the muslims, it was actually satan, as in lucifer. he was the first GM.

This topic has taken on  a life of its own and hopefully will entice some people  to be a little more friendly...but  Im troubled by some comments which brag abouit being nasty and harassing opponents.. we all like to win but not at the expense of someone elses peace of mind.  There have been so many cheaters  caught that you wonder how many more there are still out there lurking in the abyss, silently plotting against us with their engines revving , never saying a word , or spewing obsceneities  which in  a way seems to be like psychological cheating

I agree that chess  is like a form of war but a civilized one none the less.  Maybe the openning should come with an  openning  ¸possibly one which might become  a traditional  salute or  mark of respect for the opponent

What are you talking about? I can use the in game chat with anybody.

Community spirit! I have just celebrated My Queens "Diamond jubilee" with the kids, brilliant. I understand that some are republicans and dont agree. But when a whole street, community can all sit at the same table in the street and eat together.. It truely is something to behold.

There are no rules or at least there should not be! When it comes to cordiality, A simple "hi" or GG, is enough to let me know that i am actually playing another human somewhere in another world. Brilliant!

Not just clickidy clack on the "Internet"

Why take offense at what anyone says or doesn't in a game?  Beat them if you can.  If you don't like what they say don't play them again, if you like to talk do so.  If you take offense at what anyone does, that's your decision.  Decide not to take offense and move on.    If you can affect an opponent's play with chat, more power to you.    If it's really a major concern, play your computer, they are usually polite.

    Hey Stevie65,

some players hate losing and some just do not want to talk.

    I am in neither category.

One player (2years ago) paid me a nice compliment ( and he was genuine),saying that it was nice to play against a gentleman, which means that we were having a chat inbetween moves.

There you go fellow UK citizen.

It took me several days to figure that out because I was hitting the mic button instead of the arrow button.

Chalk up all of my early impoliteness as mere stupidity, then Embarassed

I tend to talk to players when it's a really close and interesting game. Or if I totally get f*cked over by a mistake of my own or good play of my opponent. Haven't played Live Chess in a while but I tend to get rather chatty on it :P

I am simply referring to manners..."hi" and "bye", or "gg". Too hard?

Yep, some people are polite and some people are not.

But something that just recently came to my attention about chatting and being nice, is that it's hard to say hi - gg . . . . during a blitz game if you're playing from a phone.

I've always been about acknowledging the person on the other end of inter net land, but now i got a smart phone if i got 3 min's for a quick game i can do it on the phone . . . . . BUT . . . .  it's a real hassle to use chat on the phone, so i don't. Sorry ! I know it sounds rude but i think that might be why some people just make moves without saying any thing.
