There is alot of negativity in the forums including topics.

This one reason I play more chess on other sites.

Can't the whinners just play chess and zip it?!

It's just chess!!

i do my best to avoid topics that i know are full of complaints :) there are so many wonderful people on this site - i enjoy them too much to let a few whiners ruin it!

I think its a positive site with most posts being about actual chess topics, as you would think it would be, and not like some sites where the divergence to other topics is considerable.

there's at least two sides to every argument and all opinions should be respected (if possible) constructive complaints can often be more production than polite compliments :)  That said, there is a lot of silly and over-the-top complaining, which can be politely ignored :)

Let's just make sure that this doesn't turn into a whine thread about the number of whine threads. My Meta-Irony Detector machine is flashing yellow!

You should read my post on bad behavior. It happened on another site. I travel around a lot of chess sites and chess.com has the best group of people, period! Also you have to develop a thick skin if you play/post on the internet. I simply ignore the idiots!

I agree that there are some whining going around this site but not a majority.

In every community there is a need to have some mixture of opinions and perspectives. It is the only way to have a balanced evaluation of matters, thus coming up with very informed decisions.

Every opinion matters. Some may sound whining but only because maybe we dont take it enough as constructively as possible.

I prefer to hear whining than insults, if you ask my opinion.

Insultive branding is negativity itself may I remind us.

Probably 80-90% of the complaining is about resigning.  In fact there are probably, just guessing 15-20 started as new posts.  People wondering why people don't resign.  The should resigners vs I will not resign.  I think the should resigners think they will convince the nonresigners to resign.  As many posts as there are I am convinced that it is like the Democrats and the Republicans all the talking and no change.

Another factor to consider is the fact that in America we have freedom of speech instituted by our founding fathers.  This site generally supports that idea with the exception of foul or abusive language.  I am personally glad that they deal with this issue of foul or abusive language.

erik, i would like to start off by saying i love chess.com, keep up the good work!

Now down to business...

i think its the diversity of on and off (chess) topic forum posts that make this interesting. the ability to have a completely open (within reason) forum is attractive. granted some poeple use it spark controversy (cheater_1 anyone?) or just want to have a good moan (i believe us british are particularly good at thisWink). if this is the case, and you don't want to be a part of it, then don't read/post on the thread.

obviously it must be policed, as there are comments that will spark outrage and anger, but generally the freedom allowed is good.

the petition for MirceaH is particularly relevant, as you did allow people to express their opinion, regardless of wether it was negative towards chess.com or not. only when the discussion degenerated was the thread closed, which of course was the correct and responsible thing to do.

thank you for giving us this freedom of speech to express ourselves!
