I have a few bottles that must not be opened until at least ten years after vintage. They're not really highfalutin, Just good Cabernet Sauvignon. But the old wine in new bottles figure is an updated version of something Jesus said about old wine in new skins. In his day, the acid in new wine

was too strong for old worn skins.

Here's my second game which I learned could be saved.  Oddly, the pgn includes the amount of time between each move.  This seems marginally pointless and adds significantly to the size of the pgn file.

I think how much time took a player think each move is not pointless at all

So.... what's the point?  Other than, perhaps, I can say I missed mate-in-one because I only looked for 3 secs.

I used to use a similar feature to find my lapses in concentration and then discover why it happened... only useful if you intend to use it.

That's Java based. BTW, you need Java enabled to play games here at Chess.com, too. Insanity...The whole world is insane, lol.

Do you like ICC's mobile app? I don't. Chess.com is much better for blitz on iOS devices, IMO.

I don't use the chess.com app, it crashed on my s4, I just log on via the normal website.

As for a response to the forum title, "no, why would it?"

It's been predicted that iPads and Tablets will will replace laptops and desktops, so chess.com will need to upgrade their apps to compete with the brilliant chess apps available. Chess.com's iPad app is slow and clunky by comparison.

The way I understand it, the core problem with Java is that when it was created, they just weren't thinking of security. It's too hard to go back and put security into Java once it's already established. We need something newer that was designed with security in mind.

    Two things:

    1) the predicted replacement reminds me of a prediction that bank tellers will cease by the mid-1980s because of ATMs. Even online banking has so far failed to bring that to pass thirty years later. Laptops will persist, I'll wager.

    2) I'm not certain which apps you are referring to, but in the two dozen that I have used for playing live and correspondence, the Chess.com app stands near the top.

You can read my app reviews on my blog. I'd certainly like to see better apps.

Is the FIDE platform free? For I think it is an important feature of chess.com.

The ICC iOS app is pretty awful, but the Android app is really nice. It's one of the nicest mobile apps I've seen. My only complaint is that it hasn't changed for a year or more in any noticeable way, even though they told me a year ago they would implement some obvious improvements I suggested.

You couldn't be more wrong about Java. As long as Sun was the owner of Java was it a very well designed platform and always very keen on security. It had hardly if any security issues. It has always been designed with security on its mind. That was actually one of the main reasons that it has become such a success. (The others being its excellent memory management, scalability and OS independence.) C# (Microsoft) is inspired by Java to say the least.

The moment Oracle was taking over Java, everything has changed. Now Java has serious security issues and a very bad designed JEE framework. Since a half year I have left Java, because it has become too bad in my opinion. I sincerely hope that Oracle will take its lesson and get back to the old days of quality delivered by Sun, because Java has always been an outstanding platform.

Chess.com has a far better interface than anything I ever saw at ICC. I gave up on them shortly after I got on chess.com. As for FIDE, they are one of those outfits that will NEVER get their act together. While I would like some improvements in the chess.com I-phone app which I use 90% of the time, I still prefer it to any others I have seen. The DO NEED TO ADD better support for looking at individual player's tournaments and groups. I cannot even find groups on the I-phone app.
