Ciao ya all! and merry christmas!
I have played only 100+ games here, so I am not a real addict (nor an active club player elswhere). I am just an average pawn pusher, or a pazer as mean people would rank me! :)
During my time spent here, I have noticed how hard it is to loose for some fellow players. Well, this is nothing new to me from other areas of life, its human nature. And I offcourse like more winning than loosing too, but if I loose, I loose. Thats that. No need to explain my self or make some excuses. I think, for example, the trophy called "I slipped" is totally nonsense. What does it mean? Offcourse the player who lost slipped, otherwise he/she would have won.
If no one slipps, no one wins, or looses.
I am reading a book by mr Kasparov, where he says that it is dangerous, when you are winning, to think that you did everything right just because you won. Among other things, he speaks about ego as one of the greatest opponents to our selves.
So my question is, which do you prefer:
1. Winning, no matter how poor the game was, or how bad you/your opponent played.
2. Loosing, even if you played one of your best games?
I choose the latter if I truly feel I did everything as good as I could, because then I know I was playing on my limits, and thats the only way to expand those limits. But I know for many people it just is a question of life and the other thing. I honestly wonder why, because if the result only matters in chess, the whole time spent playing... well, maybe you can tell me how it is.
And also do you see the games just simply 1-0, 0-1 or ½-½ ? Do you care about the word "how"?
I would probably choose losing.
To me, the fun is in the playing. If I can make 20 or so moves, then I have enjoyed the game. The more moves, the more enjoyment. I hate to lose but I love to play.
both if i lose the game accept it maybe you lacking something in your play,if i win i don't humble it ,still learn more in the name of wood pushing
I prefer to play against high rated players,it tells you who you really are when you beat them
I prefer to lose and learn than win and learn nothing at all.
I want to win, of course!
I look upon chess as being our attitude towards life, this means that ALL the time we are making decisions in life...
Do I get this job, or that...
Shall I date this girl or that...
Shall I get married or be a monk...
And when you you have lived your life, it's game over
Haha, get married or be a monk:P. That choice is too easy for most people I think!
I am more for losing great game than winning borring one.
