That's not a chess.com rule, it's a chess rule. Black is not in check, but can't make a legal move. That's stalemate-according to all chess rule sets.

I don't care we need to start a revolution towards this dumb rule and remove this from chess.com and make it so your oppenent has to pass I have always played this way at my school because my common sence thought that it should of been checkmate or your oppenent has to pass no choice.

Your school isn't playing by chess rules then. You could have won the game very easily-just make sure the king is in chess or has a square to move to. It's your own blunder to let a won game become a draw.

that's too bad for you because I don't think chess.com will change any chess rules. And by the way the rule is in my opinion very important and good

A checkmate is when the king is in check and can't get out of it. In this situation, the king is not in check, and therefore can't be in checkmate.

If you were in alaamohamed's position, I doubt you'd say anything.

The Official Laws of Chess state Article 10.3 The game is drawn when the king of the player who has the move is not in check and the player cannot make any legal move. The king is then said to be "stalemated". This immediately ends the game.

I do like the theory though that when you make a mistake the thing to do is to change the rule rather than change how you play.

No I knew nothing about the rule what so ever its just common sense that I would think I would win not something like this would happen.

Well, now you do know about the rule, so there's no need to continue arguing- right?

You can't move the queen over because it's not your move. You must make sure you're checkmating before the game is over, you can't check mate after the game!

Anyways, what stupid doesn't he have? Some punctuation would make your posts easier to read.

Stalemate adds deth to the game.  The reason you hate it is cause you drawed a won game.  Everyone has done this.  You should try to learn something from this.

well sorry m8, you should blame your school for not teaching you properly im afraid, you should have a look at the rulebook and see what else they failed to inform you of? can't believe your school bud, to teach young players a game and miss out major rules is criminal, no wonder you feel robbed

Arguing about the stalemate rule is akin to expressing outrage that your opponent moved his king and rook at the same time. Chess has rules. If you don't like these rules, don't play chess, and you won't be bound by them. Try dominoes.

this rule has been around longer than you and you cannot propose to change it just because you made a mistake in a game that you don't know the rules of. If i were to start playing a game not knowing all of the rules and i broke one by accident or something and lost i wouldn't moan and complain and say 'thats stupid, i don't like it, we should change it just for me.' in fact i would so, 'oh i didn't know that i won't make that mistake again.' simples.

Actually, Puchiko has the right idea. Stalemate is as important a rule as castling or En Passant. Live with it. Move on. Play some chess.

If you don't like it, go play your own non-stalemate version of chess in your own home. Just don't expect any of us to join in with you.
