No disrespect but Morphy and Stenitz are definitely outclassed by today's strong players.  Here is my list:

    Capablanca (at his peak)

    Alekhine (not the drunk Alekhine)

    Botvinnik

    Smyslov

    Kasparov

    Karpov

    Fischer

    Anand

It's not about being in the top 10. But putting Steinitz and Morphy against the others in the list is a total massacre. Lol. Steinitz and Morphy stand no chance and the tournament wouldn't be exciting. Of the old world champions I listed, I think Botvinnik has the greatest chance to compete against the modern champions.

good point but saying morphy to is a little unreasonable even going over his games today with modern tech alot of GM's say there wasn't to much wrong with his play at all and he lived in a time where everything chess study wise was undeveloped and still primitave and he even gave up chess due to some saying it being no one to challenge him so you dont know how strong he really is.
