Hey,

I have a suggestion for the Tactics Trainer. When you're a free member now, you have to wait 24 hours after your last problem to be able to try new ones. For some reason the time when I can do my chess problems shifts each day.
For instance: this week on Monday, I did the 10 problems at about 7.30 PM. Each day I try to do them at the same time but, today, on Friday, it's 11.20 and I still can't do them.

Why not grant free members 10 new problems when a new day starts (at 00:00), so you can choose when it's most appropriate for you to do them?
I find it really annoying to sometimes have to wait till after midnight to do them..

Example to show the benefit of my suggestion:

Monday, 7.30 PM: you do your 10 problems

Tuesday, 4.30 PM: you have an appointment in the evening and do your problems in the afternoon.

Wednesday, 12.00 PM: just before bedtime you remember you didn't do your 10 problems yet.

Thursday, 10.30 PM: You had a rough day and want to go to bed, but thanks to the adjustment to the Tactics Trainer( Laughing) you can do your chess problems before you got to bed.

And so on..

Do you see my point? It's still an average of 10 problems per 24 hours, but it's more comfortable for the users.

What do you think of my suggestion?

Kind regards

that's fine, but when do we do the restart? which time? 0:00 isn't the same for everyone... :) and if we do it for user-specified timezones, then we get people trying to trick the system...

I have a solution.  It's so brilliant that I'm surprised no one thought of it before.  I bought a membership!

You could restart at 00.00 servertime, after a while everybody will know at what time in their timezone this will be.

This could work fine, right?

@Rabid Dog: I would love to buy a membership, but some people just can't afford it (even though the silver membership isnt expensive).

If I could, I would immediately buy diamond :)

Kind regards.

Hi Shinrikyo

That's fair comment 'though my pockets aren't too full of cash at the moment.  I just feel that this site is so good and the charges are so reasonable that I felt that it would be unfair if I didn't support the site by buying a subscription.  If you can't at the moment (and there are many who can't, particularly the younger ones) then that's just fine and please don't take my comments as a criticism.

Regards

The Dog

This poor art student (even more poor than a normal college student) is going to buy a life time subscription once he gets a full-time job teaching!  I want to play in more tournaments so badly I was debating weather or not to buy a month membership just to play in a few more tourneys.

Erik I say reset the clocks when ever you want... You're the boss, remember Wink.

we figured the rolling 24 hours would actually be best, but apparently not :) i guess we can just reset it at 00:00 GMT? i'll think about it.

Erik, it is your decision, but I just try to persuade you with some common sense :)

If you would reset the system at 00:00 GMT for example, you just wouldn't have the  loss there is now.

I only see benefit:
- You don't lose a number of problems over the time

- More freedom in your time schedule

So, no negative effects.. no reason not to do it? Laughing

Kind regards.
