whenever i win or lose a match by checkmate, at pc or ipad, i get banned for 5 minutes. i'm not intentionally aborting and the connection is good. how can i avoid this?

Are you sure you're not aborting games when your opponent doesn't respond on the first move?

The game should be automatically forfeited when they don't make their first move after a short while, so it's better to wait than abort.

The message informing you about your restriction should have said: this restriction will be lifted automatically after you play more games fairly.

So stick to the policy outlined here, play some games and you'll be off.
