You will lose points if you lose on any rated game. And if you can't log in you wouldn't be able too abort it. And you wouldn't be able too resign.

1. If someone you are playing is going to time out, and you do not want to win the game just yet, make sure that the check box next to "Auto win on time" is unchecked.. you can find that box on this screen: http://www.chess.com/home/echess_settings.html . Then, in order to win a game via time out, you will have to go into each game individually claim the win. If you do not claim it, it will just wait for you.

2. You can only "abort" a game before both players have made two moves. Once both players make two moves, and abort is not possible, only a resign. If you are able to abort a game, it will not effect anyone's ratings.

3. Again, you can only abort very early, but, if you do, no, it will not show up anywhere, it will be as if the game had never existed.

artfizz or baseballfan:

..if you look at game The_Cobra vs Jamielou48 (10th Feb 2009) you will see that the game is only 1 move old and there is no way of aborting it. Both parties are consenting to the cancelling of the game.
