ever since i registered for chess.com i keep getting the same annoying pop up that wants me to dowload so and so software.  what the hec?

What software does it request that you download?  It could be something as inane as updating your Flashplayer.

Otherwise it could be spyware you have contracted in your online dealings.

we do NOT ask anyone to install ANY software. you must be having a problem with a hijacked browser. what browser are you using? do you have anti-spyware software installed??
