There are times, particularly in the evenings MST, that I can't move because my connection to Chess.Com times out.  I don't seem to have any problem going to other sites.   Is anyone else seeing a change in performance or it is just me?

Thanks

not me. please let me know if anyone else has this regularly. pdmura, you should know that if you are using cable internet often times during peak evening traffic (after dinner, etc) many families in your neighborhood might be getting online at the same time and clogging the internet. you should check other sites at the same time. if it is just chess.com then that is a problem!

I only joined yesterday, but I have been having the same problem both at work (t1 line) and at home (dsl), and it as at different times throughout the day.

Erik, Sites like MSN and CNN and Google all come up quickly when I am having trouble with Chess.Com.  The connection time outs occur most often when I am submitting a move.  Often I am unsuccessful getting logged back in and have to wait a while.  I see the difficulties using Mozilla, IE, Safari, and Chrome - so my guess was it is either my provider or chess.com.  I have not noticed if the number of reported users is above some level, but I may start a log.   If only a few of your thousands of users see the problem, it is probably an isolated, inconvenient weirdness for us few.  I'm in the software business too, so I understand these things happen.  Thanks.

Erick,  I have not used Firebug - but I will down load it and give it a try.  I continue to see the problem both at work and at home (but to be fair, access from both can be very slow at times).  Is there something specific you would like me to try?

I've noticed significant slowdowns over the past 3 weeks. Prior to that the refresh time was almost immediate. Now it can take a minute or more. This morning is was immediate for awhile then reverted back to slow. Other websites haven't developed any issues so I don't think the problem is likely to be at my end.

I've read on the site that Internet Explorer is not preferred. I use my employer's computer at home so can't make signifcant changes. Not sure what Firebug is so I'll have to take a look.

sometimes it's "the internet". sometimes it's your connection. sometimes it's google analytics. sometimes it's ads. sometimes it's chess.com. if it is persistent, please let us know and we can try and help out! but using a 7-year-old browser doesn't help :) (assuming you are on IE6).

Hi. In the last week or so there has been a noticable slowdown in submitting moves and page refreshing. i had put it down to traffic. I am on broadband and previously there was almost instant refreshing. and once in the last few days I was shut out after pressing submit move button. Took a while to log back in. Great site though!

Erik,  I am using Mozilla 3.03.  The timeouts normally occur waiting for data being transmitted from www.google-analytics.com (or so says the info bar at the bottom of the window).  The time outs most frequently occur opening a game to look at a position or when I am opening an analysis board.  I've not had a chance to try Firebug yet - but I intend on trying it.  Thanks.

Well, to follow up and close out this topic, I have not had problems the past couple of weeks.  Not sure what is different, but it is better.  Thanks.
