I am having trouble playing with my Blackberry....I cant resize the board except to make it larger and half the moves I want to make I cant...occasionally I will be able to move a pawn one square by attempting to move it 2...and knight moves are just bizarre...
This started around mid week after their most recent "upgrade"
The game is unplayable on my blackberry, and last week it was just fine
Are you playing through chess.com website or app?
It's an upgrade issue thing.
I have an iphone, the app works great. But through the web (safari) the website is all messed up. Kohoi and friends are working on the issues and I have faith in them. Maybe send them a ticket to them through support.
I have a blackberry and i have no issues playing on it. could be yours that is facing the difficulty.
Blackberry does not have issues! I totally disagree, and every blackberry is easy to use with chess.com, why? Its simple download opera mini 6.5 and u now go in the website and u can make ur move, So go and make ur move china!
I wasnt having any issues until the last "upgrade" of the site. I was just using the browser, not the app. Now the site is hosed, particularly when trying to play chess
maybe send an email to support. i dont have that issue.
Just an FYI: Apparently many smartphone users are having identical issues (including droid and iphone) with the site. A chess.com rep stated that they had in the works a more smartphone friendly website.
Seems they rolled out the "upgrade" before it was fully tested. Nothing like a little planning before jumping off the cliff.
I wouldnt worry about it. Chess.com is the best site there is out there to play chess and have all sorts of content, so they will get up to speed to meet the smartphone demand. patience my friends :)
Agreed that it is the best. I just find that the lack of planning and testing is disturbing. My career involves planning and seldom would I get an opportunity to "test" my plan ahead of time in order to tweak it. When it comes to programming (of which I have experience) I know that more could have been done to find and fix the bugs we have seen since the switch, and apparently either they didnt test the latest "upgrade" or they didnt care that it screwed up some phones abilities to handle the site.
Lack of planning is never a good excuse.
To be honest with you, i dont think that it is a problem. i am on my smartphones 24/7 and on chess.com and i dont see a problem as far as playing on there. now, could it be better? of course, but are we expecting too much?
obviously, considering your remark, you have zero experience with programming.
I am not having a problem, ergo it isnt the website's programming that is at issue.
Well...myself and others had no issues with how the game played on our smartphones, and yet since the programming changes took place we are. So...given that the only thing that has changed is the programming what does logic tell you?
i dont program, but i have lots of friends in that arena.. more importantly, you give the customer want they want or try to at all times.. sometimes, though, that isnt feasible.
feasible is testing programming changes. Granted you cannot always foresee all potential problems but something as major as various platforms (smartphones) working should be a major consideration.
Given that the site was working fine before the "upgrade" they should be able to narrow down the causes and fix them quickly. So far, no changes have been made.
Have you ever been to a legitimite business that (obviously) depended on their customer base for their livelyhood and yet still couldnt seem to grasp the need for good customer service? You cannot say that it is impossible...self imposed deadlines rushing thru changes that have not been properly tested is not acceptable from a customer point of view. Specially when you consider that time could have been taken to test for issues.
I can say for a fact that customer service is part of the solution in growing a successful business; however, its not without other parts as well. You need to have the perfect mix to create that leading product/service. Right now, chess.com has it. BTW, I have a few businesses.
I admit that I like the site...I like the features. If you read the thread, I am not threatening to leave or anything of the likes.
My statement was simple: "Agreed that it is the best. I just find that the lack of planning and testing is disturbing."
I am 58 years old and have a ton of experience in business. My whole life has revolved around planning and customer service. I can say categorically and succinctly: Their planning sucks. Your whole argument seems to change gears for each post, as you defend them, and yet you cannot seem to counter the points I make in each post.
"I can say for a fact that customer service is part of the solution in growing a successful business; however, its not without other parts as well. You need to have the perfect mix to create that leading product/service. " All I can say about that is: No sh_t sherlock. Or should it be captain obvious? : )
What do you want me to counter? i will be happy to.
Start off with my central complaint: Not enough time or effective problem solving was taken to test the changes they made.
The only deadline they had would have been their own. They have no serious competition that was about to grab a chunk of their marketshare if they didnt go online with their upgrades immediately. Granted, at some point one has to fly and let the chips fall where they will. However something as important as losing smartphone play in this day and age is rather huge.
It would be useful to know what changes they made. I just re-joined chess.com after many years off of it. From what I can say is that the site has grown exponentially. Having smart phone issues? Okay not such a big deal, but as I said before, I have no issues with it. If you are having issues with it, I would seek help. Perhaps it’s just your device because of course, technology isn’t perfect so one device could work well on it, while one wouldn’t work as well. I used to work in wireless, I would know about that. Ha-ha.
With blackberry, as you can see by many accounts, it has already lost a tremendous market share vs. apple and other manufactures. So perhaps, the idea behind not supporting it as much (the app) is a wise one. Of course there will always be the niche but developers really don’t have an incentive to build such an application. The website works fine. I played many games on it and I have nothing but success
I agree with you that they have (chess.com) no serious competition. If you take a look at other websites, chess.com eats their lunch. Sometimes, there is a need to fix internal things before moving onto other avenues. They already have a decent application and mobile webased product. So the question is, why devote more resources on it?
As I said before.. it could be your phone. My phone works perfectly.
" If you are having issues with it, I would seek help. " Such as, perhaps, just maybe, posting my problem on the "help and support forum"? Where is the chess.com rep who is responding to reassure me that this will be taken care of?
I had to read another thread about iphone issues to find a response from a rep...and that was days after I initiated this post. (btw...the iphone user was reporting the EXACT same issues I am having.
I am not using the Blackberry app, as it has continually experienced problems from the beginning. I was simply using the browser. Since the "upgrade" last week, it (the site) does not work properly, and this is reported by other platform (droid and iphone) users as well.
You still did not respond to the central question as I posted above.
"As I said before.. it could be your phone. My phone works perfectly. " Ergo, since your phone works perfectly (are you using the browser or an app?) then it must be me..."sIgh" Given that attitude, it is outstanding that you are not a programmer.
How many businesses (particularly software) have gone under because they rushed product to release without adequately checking quality ?
