I tried to change my profile picture to a new image, but after I click "save changes" my picture reverts to the blank one (grey with a pawn). Can one of you help me to solve this issue?
Save the image you are uploading as a 'GIF' file. Size around 250sq pixels. Make sure the picture-file name appears in upload-box on profile-page before clicking 'save-changes'.
Ah ok, I was trying to use a .jpeg. I'll try a .gif
Check the FAQs. One of the questions they answer is "Why hasn't my avatar updated?". Not to ruin it for you, but they have several suggestions including clearing your cache. You should read it yourself because it's a little complicated.

I looked at this post in the FAQ but it doesn't even seem to register that I'm trying to upload a new photo (refreshing with f5 doesn't help) and I can't see the new picture in either live or in online chess:

When clicking 'choose-file' (edit avatar) you must double-click on thumbnail on your pc not filename.
(that is locate the actual picture icon or thumbnail-image on your computer)
Actually there may be a site bug/code-problem with avatars today? Have just looked at a team-match roster and all the avatars are missing??
I successfully changed my avatar a few days ago (it was a jpeg format), but according to your story, you did the same as me, so I have no clue.
@fyroegef- are you seeing the grey pawn everywhere, or just on live chess?

That's the problem for me today, seeing avatars missing everywhere, mine including and cant upload a new one.
Has this really been fixed? I've been trying to upload a .PNG file dimensions 189x274 so not terribly far off the recommended 200x200. I figured like a lot of other sites, it would just get resized if necessary. I'm having no luck though, I also tried with a jpg I guess I can also try with a gif. Please advise.
I'm not sure what happened to fix mine, but I no longer have the grey pawn. I was in contact with support. Perhaps those others having trouble could also submit a service request so that tech support knows what is going on?

how do you upload a profile photo?
Roll your cursor over "home" in the upper right and click on "profile". Avatar is the first item. Click "choose file". Obviously you have to have some image on your computer that you want to use. Find the folder it's in and click on the file. Think that's about all there is to it.
