i want to be rated...i dont know how...is there a way that i could be rated?
Hi Kuroro. Most countries have their own chess federation and if you are a member and play games against other people you will get a rating.
Alternatively, you could play against people online on a chess website and you will also get a rating. You should be able to play against people on this website soon!
I found a funny test the other day: "Solve ten problems and have your rating Guesstimated"
I will post the URL if I can find it.
May I also ask you a question concerning this topic? I have a computer game Chessmaster 10th Edition. In this game you can play "rated games" against other computer players with their own raitings. If you win a stronger opponent, for example, your rating will increase. But do these ratings in the game actually mean anything (I mean can this raiting be corresponded with any among the international ratings, or is this rating valid only in this particular game)?
All ratings systems are relative. That means that your rating in one system (or software or website) could be different to that on another. Or, put another way a 1900 Elo rated player may be stronger than a 1900 rated USCF player who in turn is stronger than a player rated 1900 on ChessMaster.
Fritz lets you play serious 'rated' games (timed games with no take-backs allowed) and after about 20-25 games will give you a reasonable estimate of your rating.
We can all get a bit hung up about ratings, so it's worth remembering that a rating is itself just a estimate of your strength relative to others based on your past results against a certain group of players.
All popular chess playing websites give members a rating based on their results. Most are not free however e.g. The ICC (Internet Chess Club) has a membership fee. If you buy a Chessbase playing program like Fritz 10 then you get a year's free access to playchess.com, otherwise there is a fee for that site as well.
I am looking forward to playing chess on chess.com for free!
You can have rating on the free internet chess server(http://www.freechess.org/).
as the name suggests it is free!
but there are some problems:
1. signing up is cumbersome.
2. the jin applet will not load if you want to play via proxy(at your workplace or from college)
but everything else is worth the trouble and it is an awesome site for chess.
i hope chess.com comes up with an even better version
