i have went to my account > online chess settings > chess.com greeter. I have ticked the box and set my number at 100.  Still am marked as unavailable. I have tried ticking and unticking and changing my number but am always listed as unavailable.  and have always clicked "Save Settings".  So maybe a staff insider can fix the problem.    thanks.

Because you can't play 100 games.

100 is the max.  I have played almost 500 games as a greeter and used anywhere from 10 to 100 games max before. maybe the new format has a problem . I used different max numbers recently and none of them worked. 10,  30,  50, 100

Is this fact or an assumption ?  If chess.com won't let me play 100 (which is only the max number any way) then usually a statement comes up stating you can not play 100 games, pick another lower number.  I apppreciate your help chessblood but facts rule

The UNAVAILABLE setting does not refer to Greeter games. It is simply the NEXT option - that means you don't want to accept ANY games.

I am willing to play unrated welcome games against new Chess.com members. I will help them understand how to play on Chess.com and answer questions.

Well then the computer has two problems because I am available for games but it says unavailable plus I still am not getting any greeter games.  When I was a greeter at various time over the last 4 years I would get a steady stream of greeter games.  I haven't received any over the last week.

But thanks for the heads up on the unavailable though Art

Prior to the redesign, when someone joined the site they'd see in their online chess page 'click here to play'  then they'd be paired up with their greeter.

Post redesign that message is now shown as part of their welcome message in their homepage inbox. If they don't activate it from there, they won't be assigned to a greeter, hence less greeter games are being created.

Perhaps we should look at changing this back?

I found that 95 % of greeter games were only one or two moves if at all so it's probably best to let the newbie decide. I hate it when things are automatic.  The 5 % that do activate it will probably spend more time and money here.  Thanks Kohai, I can always count on you to straighten things out.

p.s. But why does my accepting challenges box  in my accounts section show me unavailable ?????????????????

Where exactly does it show that? Which page and section?

That isn't a status icon; it is just a header graphic. It says the same thing on mine too and I'm available for challenges.

Thanks for clearing that up Martin. Chess.com should really change that header. It is a bit confusing.  But now all is well in Fargusland
